These two teams meet each other in Norman for the Sooners second home game. They both were two of the highest scoring offenses a year ago. Tulsa is coming off two very good 10 win seasons. Defense will certainly matter in this game or the Sooners will be in a shootout like last year vs Oklahoma State.
On Tulsa's offense, they lose their record breaking quarterback from last year and are working on getting a new quarterback into their system. They do return a explosive reciever in Damarias Johnson. He is a very fast player who has game breaking ability to score whenever he touches the ball. He also returns kicks which will be a good test for Oklahoma who struggled in kick coverage last year. If Oklahoma does not fix this problem Tulsa will have opportunities to score on kick returns.
Their defense remains in question with eight starters returning. They never had really had to rely on their defense last year with such a high scoring offense. This year figures to be diffrent with a slightly slower paced offense. It will be interesting to see how their defense responds to Oklahoma's high ocane passing and running attack.
Oklahoma should not have to much trouble getting out to an early start in this game if they can establish the run. They will wear down a defense that hasn't been tested. Look for this to open up the passing game.
On the defensive side, Oklahoma has struggled with high scoring offenses in the past like Florida, West Virginia, and Boise State. This game will quickly become a shootout if they can't stop Tulsa's offense.
Players to watch
Tulsa- Tulsa Defense
If Tulsa's defense can step it up they will have a chance with their very talented offense. If they can't Oklahoma will score all over them. This will be a big factor in this game.
Oklahoma- Secondary
With two new starters at free and strong safety their secondary appears to be the weakest part of a good defense. If the secondary can't stop the pass Tulsa will move the ball up and down the field. If they can, Oklahoma will dominate the game.
Oklahoma looks to extend their home winning streak and beat their instate rival. Tulsa looks to pull the upset this year after last losing their last meeting to Oklahoma two years ago on their home field.
